Bowie-based Right at Home wants to help.

 

“Our business is that we provide home care for folks that need a little extra help,” said Right at Home owner and operator Lewis Myers.

The company employs Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to help patients with a range of companion duties, from shopping and cleaning to daily living activities, including toileting and showering.

Myers bought Right at Home about two months ago, but the business has been operating in Bowie since 2004. The move to owning a home care business was a natural evolution for Myers, who has worked in the patient support industry for years.However, what inspired Myers’ job change was his grandfather’s passing several years ago.“Towards the end, he had to go into a nursing home and he really just wanted to go home,” Lewis said.

His grandfather’s health began to rapidly decline after he was put in the nursing home and he passed away about a day later.Myers said it was difficult to watch his grandfather decline and his distress over leaving his home. So when Myers learned more about the home health care industry, he believed it was a much better way to keep people happy and maintain their quality of life.
